    Fairmount Avenue (between Broad and 25th Streets) is once again eligible for the City of Philadelphia's Storefront Improvement Program (SIP). Thanks to the hard work by folks at Philadelphia Association of Community Development Corporations, Philadelphia Department of Commerce and City Council the funding sources for the program have been modified to allow for more commercial corridors to be eligible. Business owners and/or tenants along Fairmount Avenue can now be reimbursed up to 50% of their costs to improve their storefront.  While this is new for businesses along Fairmount Avenue, businesses along West Girard Avenue are also eligible between College Avenue and 29th Street.     Can you be a "Pie in the Sky" Pickup Location in November?

    MANNA (Metropolitan Area Neighborhood Nutrition Alliance) prepares and delivers nourishing and medically-appropriate meals to individuals suffering from life-threatening illnesses such as Cancer and HIV/AIDS. They deliver over 65,000 meals per month to individuals and families in the greater Philadelphia area - completely free of charge. 

    Their annual Pie in the Sky fundraiser generates over $250,000 for MANNA's programs through the sale of over 8,000 pies. Pie sales begin online October 1, and continue through November 20All pie pickups occurs on theTuesday and Wednesday prior to Thanksgiving at 40+ local partners in the greater Philadelphia region. 

    MANNA is currently looking for businesses who can host pie pickup during both of the days and times listed below:

    • Tuesday, November 243:30pm - 8:30pm
    • Wednesday, November 259:30am - 2:30pm 

    Please note that you can either choose to staff the site yourselves, or MANNA can provide volunteers to manage the pickup. They have noticed an increase in the number of individuals and families purchasing pie in the Fairmount / Brewerytown area and are hoping to find a pick-up site in our area! 

    The pickup location will be featured on the MANNA website, and pie buyers pick the location most convenient to their home, office, or travel plans. Other pickup locations include the Bellevue in Philadelphia, 30th Street Station, Philadelphia International Airport, Marathon Grill, IKEA, Bryn Mawr Running Company, and some other amazing local partners.

    DNC Bar + Restaurant Info Meeting
    The Philadelphia DNC Host Committee Invites you to Information Meeting for Bars & Restaurants on Aug. 25

    You're invited! The Democratic National Convention (DNC) in 2016 will put an international spotlight on Philadelphia, its local communities, business, attractions and more. The opportunity to host thousands of media, visitors and democratic delegates will not only generate a significant and immediate economic stimulus to the region but will also put the city in a better position to attract future business investments and national events.

    The Philadelphia 2016 Host Committee for the DNC will hold an information meeting on Tuesday, August 25th. Please see the meeting details below. The Host Committee will collect business cards at the meeting and send future meeting invitations directly.

    Time: Your choice of meeting time: 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. or 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.

    Learn more about  business stabilization (up to $10,000) and business loan match (up to $20,000) grants for merchants.

    The Merchants Fund has two core grant making areas for businesses that have been legally established for at least three years in Philadelphia:

    Business Stabilization grants up to $10,000 to help small businesses remain stable, viable and grow in the face of economic challenges or to respond to opportunities. TMF does not make grants for working capital. Grants must be spent by December 31, 2015.

    Business Loan Matches up to $20,000 to match accredited government programs or bank loans at least dollar for dollar ($20,000 minimum loan matched by a $20,000 grant). TMF does not make loans. Grants must be spent by August 31, 2015.
